Samavedana functions on the fund provided by Society at large. So, the patient treated through Samavedana should be an asset to the society and not a burden on it. With this foregoing guiding principle, following criteria are applied to determine eligibility for assistance.

Patients who are likely to be totally cured and lead a
normal life after treatment
Categories of assistance:
Initially Samavedana used to fully support the patient. The patient would pay whatever he can, and Samavedana would pay for whatever else needed. Over a period, patients were assisted in more ways. Currently assistance is provided in following manner.
Take up total financial burden of the patient.
Provide limited financial assistance.
Appeal to generous people to support specific patients
and raise funds directly.

Family History and Economical Background :
Said’s family consists of his parents, one elder sister aged 15 yrs and one younger brother aged 5 yrs. His mother is a house wife. His father sells bananas on a cart. He is the only earning member in the family earning approximately Rs. 3000 per month.
Said was operated in the outside hospital before. But the surgery was not successful. Hence he required one more operation. Considering patient’s young age, necessity of treatment and weak economic condition, he was assisted through Samavedana.

Need For Treatment:
Since last one month, this young boy was complaining of repeated vomiting episodes and headaches on & off. On examination, it was found that the shunt pump was not working. Scan reveled developing hydrocephalus. Hence surgery was done. After surgery, he is improving and power in his lower limbs is also increasing.

Ailment: Bilateral hip replacement
Family and Economical Background:
Rani’s family consists of her husband and mother in law. Her husband works in a private company, earning Rs. 3000 per month. She required two operations for bilateral hip replacement. Considering her economic condition, it was impossible for them to bear the cost of these surgeries. Hence Samavedana supported her for both the operations.

Need For Treatment:
The patient had pain in lower limbs. She had difficulty in folding her legs & sitting crossed legs. Rani was diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis involving bilateral femoral head & neck. Avascular necrosis (AVN) is a pathologic process that results from interruption of blood supply to the bone. She required bilateral hip replacement, the cost of which is approximately Rs. 3 lac.
